African Clawed Frog article Although this article is a little dated, the importance is maybe even more paramount now since the spread of the chytrid fungus has been alleged to be linked with the release or escape of the African Clawed Frog (Xenopus laevis). This frog was used by doctors for pregnancy tests for many years all over the world and seems to carry the fungus but is not affected by it. Therefore, it seems to within the realm of possibility that while humans tried to better understand medicine they may have inadvertently spread a disease that will eventually wipe out amphibians. Apocalyptic? Maybe Over the top? I'm afraid not. Check out this article for more info on this theory Pregnancy test link to frog fall
